FRPO is an internationally awarded architecture design firm based in Madrid and involved in a large number of projects from masterplans tO objects.

Profile

FRPO is directed by Fernando Rodriguez and Pablo Oriol. The office has been internationally recognized with the Architectural Record Design Vanguard (New York, 2012), the Europe 40 Under 40 (Chicago, 2009) and the Bauwelt Preis (Berlin, 2007) awards, among others.

Our works in Spain, Mexico and the US have also received prestigious awards, such as the selection for the Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize (2022), the Architectural Review Emerging Architecture Awards (2019), the FAD Awards (2019, 2020, 2021), the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale as participants in the Spanish Pavilion (2016), the nomination for the Mies van der Rohe Awards (2015), the Spanish Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism (2007, 2013, 2021), or the Ibero-American Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism (2006, 2014).

FRPO’s work has been widely published, and its proposals have been disseminated through articles, lectures, and frequent exhibitions, both nationally and internationally. Trained as architects at the ETSAM in Madrid, at the IIT in Chicago and the TU Berlin, Pablo Oriol and Fernando Rodriguez are professors in the Department of Architectural Design at the ETSAM UPM, as well as regular guests at various national and foreign universities.

Team

Pablo Oriol holds a Masters in Advanced Architectural Design (MPAA) from Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. He studied Architecture at the ETSAM Madrid and the IIT Chicago between 1995 and 2005. He teaches at the Architectural Design Department of UPM ETSAM, both in Undergraduate and Graduate Programs. He has also taught and has been guest critic at other international institutions, such as the Falcoltà di Architettura del Politecnico di Milano, the IE School of Architecture and Design, the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya and the Accademia di Architettura di Mendrisio.

Fernando Rodriguez holds a PhD in Architecture from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. He studied Architecture in the ETSAM Madrid and the TU Berlin between 1995 and 2003. He teaches at the Architectural Design Department of UPM ETSAM, both in Undergraduate and Graduate Programs. He has also taught and has been guest critic at other international institutions, such as FAU PUCP Lima, Technische Universität Berlin, IE School of Architecture and Design and Universitat Internacional de Catalunya. In 2015 his PhD dissertation “An infrastructural understanding of architectural design” (PhD Prize 2016), showcases his interest in the infrastructural condition of contemporary architecture and the different scales in which it performs.

The office is run by both partners and the regular number of people working at different roles varies from eight to twelve. Since 2008, more than 50 architects have collaborated at FRPO:
