Faculty of Biomedical Sciences
Getafe (Spain)
Meaning a major opportunity to rethink educational architecture, this new venue for Universidad Carlos III is conceived as a flexible frame, a support to the cutting-edge methodology of blended learning. Besides, the building must respond efficiently to the sustainability premises which are firmly demanded.
The proposal is arranged in a simple but emphatic way. Four vertical, multifunctional devices complement the clear frame, ensuring the building’s desired technification, whereas a system of modular spaces host the different programs.
Sustainable solutions were already present at early stages of design. Solar protection is therefore provided by construction elements themselves and by an update of traditional techniques: the central courtyard, solar chimneys and the ground heat exchanger.
