Enrique Blas Sport Centre

Collado Villalba (Spain)

The aim of this project is to renovate and extend the current sport centre in Collado Villaba. Thoughtfully designed by architect José Paz back in 1981, the venue is nowadays obsolete in normative, programmatic, constructive –and therefore energetic– terms.

In the dilemma of whether restoring or demolishing, the design idea opts to dismantle the existing building in order to enhance the new construction’s quality. Nevertheless, cost cutting will be achieved by conceiving a zero-energy building based on concentrated solar power –a cutting-edge system in European architecture.

Two new courts are arranged alongside a spine which hosts the stands and further services, with possibility of either being subdivided crosswise in six smaller basketball courts or occasionally enlarged to host higher-level competitions or mass events.
